COVID-19    BUGANDA

KAMPALA - As the fight against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) intensifies, Buganda Kingdom has closed its offices until April 14, to avoid the spread of the pandemic.

The announcement was made by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga at Bulange Mengo on Thursday, the headquarters of the kingdom.

Mayiga said the offices will remain closed until April 14 and will resume with a staff while the rest of them will be working from home until the 32-day President Yoweri Museveni's ban on public gatherings elapses.

However, he said the kingdom's media outlets will continue operating because the public needs the right information to make informed decisions to prevent the virus from spreading.

Globally, more than 600,000 people have been infected with the virus and over 20,000 people have died since the outbreak was first reported in Wuhan, China in December last year.

The disease has spread to more than 170 countries and territories across the World.

Uganda has so far recorded 23 cases of Covid-19, with most of the victims being returnees from Dubai.

Mayiga commended the Ministry of Health for the job well done so far. "It is important for all of us to get information from credible sources. The Ministry of Health has done a good job updating the public on the pandemic," he said.
