Police officer caught on camera stealing from student

MUBENDE - A police officer attached to Bududa Police Station, identified as ASP John Ahebwa has been arrested for stealing a student's bag containing books and sh140,000 meant for school fees.

It is alleged that a student from Mubende Light Academy had gone to the Post Bank in Mubende district to pay school fees.

According to the Police CID Spokesperson, Charles Twine, the girl placed her school bag near the door as she went to pick and fill the bank slip.

It is said that by the time she turned, her bag was nowhere to be seen.

It is further alleged that the branch manager viewed the recorded CCTV footage and was able to identify the man who had ran away with the bag.

"The suspect's account was identified and blocked as a trap," Twine said.

He added that  the victim registered a case of theft of her bag containing books and sh140,000 under SD ref/61/3/3/2020.

On March 27, the suspect went back to the Post Bank to withdraw his salary and was arrested.

He is now detained at Mubende Police Station.
