Uganda to bid for the 2026 Africa Youth Games

The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) said today that Uganda could bid for the quadrennial event.

Uganda has been given a go ahead to bid for the 2026 Africa Youth Games.

The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) said today that Uganda could bid for the quadrennial event.

"Uganda has the capacity to host the games and should go ahead and bid for the 2026 edition," stated ANOCA president Berraf Mustapha.

Berraf was closing the 55 ANOCA executive board meeting in Kampala.

The African youth games are a multi-sport event intended to complement the All Africa Games. The inaugural edition was held in 2010 in Rabat, Morocco.

Should Uganda win the bid, it will be hosting its first major multi sports games.

The last games were held in Algiers with Egypt emerging top amongst 54 nations. It attracted 3,098 athletes.

ANOCA also wound up the two day sessions in Kampala with a commitment to support the International Olympic Committee in having the Tokyo Olympics.

This position was in light of the global Corona Virus threat.

"ANOCA expresses all its gratitude for the commitment of the IOC during these delicate moments and confirms unanimously that it registers in the wake of the essential values that animate the Olympic Movement, mainly its solidarity and spirit of responsibility.

As such. ANOCA confirms the full availability of its members to work tirelessly alongside the IOC for the benefit and interest of the athlete and the Olympic Games in accordance to the precepts that govern its functioning," read an ANOCA statement.
