NCS council inaugurated

Mar 07, 2020

Newly minted NCS chairman Don Rukare has promised to go to work on several issues that have made work difficult at the NCS.

State Minister for Sports Hamson Obua has warned the incoming National Council of Sports members led by chairman Don Rukare to stay away from squabbles and instead seek to improve sports.

"During your term of office, I would like to see a very harmonious national sports council. Sibling rivalry has no room in this fight for sports development. Leaders of sports federations should operate within the parameters of the law and the provisions of their respective constitutions," the minister said.

He wants the new board to emulate the previous one and secure the land titles of all facilities like they did with the Lugogo Complex.

Newly minted NCS chairman Don Rukare has promised to go to work on several issues that have made work difficult at the NCS.

"Some of the issues we would like to look at are some of the issues around collaboration and partnerships. Issues like having the policy that dates back to 2004 revamped. Questions around the new law, issues on facilities of partnerships and I believe we should be able as a new council to address these," Rukare said after the ceremony on Friday.

The new council has up to February 2022 to prove a point, something the minister believes they can achieve. The other 10 council members are Dr. George Galiwango, Paul Luswata, Agatha Namirembe, Zubairi Galiwango, Grace Abalo, and former USPA secretary Mark Ssali, Cecilia Anyakoit and Piloya Evelyn.

Anyakoit was not present during the ceremony due to work commitments but will be sworn in soon.
