Jude Ssemugabi bagged a brace as Mbarara City convincingly beat Bright Stars 3-1 away at Kavumba Recreation Ground on Wednesday.

After a barren first half, Ssemugabi opened the scoring party in the 54th minute and completed his brace in the 81st minute of the game.

Solomon Okwalinga, the former Synergy midfielder sealed the Ankole Lion's victory by netting the third goal in the 89th minute.

Bernard Muwanga gave the host's a stoppage time consolation in the sixth minute of additional time.

The victory puts Mbarara in the seventh position, level on points with BUL (36), but the Jinja side has better head to head advantage.

For Paul Kiwanuuka's Bright Stars, this was the second consecutive loss having lost to SC Villa 2-1 at Namboole last Friday.

The Kavumba side remains 11th on the log but could drop to 12th if Express beats Maroons on Thursday at Luzira Prisons.

At the FUFA Technical Centre in Jinja, BUL beat  Onduparaka by 4-0, Joseph Ssemujju, Musa Walangira, Fredson Gwoto and Musa Esenu were all on target for the Jinja side.
