Govt gives guidelines on KCCA elections
The Government has issued guidelines for the election of the speakers and deputy speakers of KCCA and other Urban authorities of Kampala.

The elections to take place at city hall and in all the five Municipalities of Kampala including KCCA on Thursday will start with nominations and campaigns between 8:00 am 9:00 am.

Followed by voting that will be done by secret ballot.

Among adds that immediately after the election the winner will be declared and sworn in by the magistrate.

Opposition present agenda ahead of elections
Opposition political parties under the Inter-Party Organization for Dialogue have finalized their agenda on issues to present to the government ahead of the 2021 general elections.

Yesterday, the parties' secretary generals led FDC's Nandala Mafabi met and reviewed a number of commitments agreed upon by the previous summits which have not been implemented.

The IPOD executive secretary Frank Rusa told X-FM that among the issues to be presented to Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda include the new guidelines for the public order management act which were formulated by member parties and electoral reforms among others.

Rusa says the meeting is scheduled for Wednesday to present the issues and have a way forward for free and fair 2021 elections.

Ssekana orders judges on Bigirimana
The High Court Judge, Justice Musa Ssekaana, has given one month to the Judiciary PS Pius Bigirimana and judges body UJOA which had sued him through the Attorney General, challenging his PS status, to resolve their differences outside court.

UJOA leadership through its lawyer  James Tegule Gawaya also challenges Bigirimana's decision of slashing the Judicial Officers' allowances which they insist is illegal.

Now lawyers for both parties who include Tegule Gawaya of UJOA and George Kalemera from the Attorney General's office have informed the judge that there was a need for their clients to enter mediation.

It was from that point that Ssekaana issued a one-month ultimatum for them to report back, according to Gawaya.

Govt threatens to stop gatherings over coronavirus
The Government has threatened to stop public gatherings if organisers fail to work with the Ministry of Health and police to fulfill the required health measures.

The State Minister for  Health in charge of Primary Health Care  Dr. Joyce Kaducu says event organisers must have sanitisers, water for handwashing and health workers with temperature scanners.

Dr. Kaducu says no case has been registered but the country should be alert.

Over 1,000 delegates for HIV meeting in Kampala
The Government is set to host an International Conference on HIV/AIDs from 6th December to 11th December 2021.

The Conference will attract over 1000 delegates and will provide a platform for Health experts to share experiences on how to combat HIV/AIDs in developing countries.

Media agency wants responsible use of social media
The Center for Media Literacy and Community Development want Government to engage young people on the responsible use of social media.

The Executive Director Bruce Vitalis during a press conference in Kampala said some people post falsehoods on social media without assessing its impact on society.

He said responsible use of social media is key in guaranteeing peace during elections and calls for continuous engagement of mainstream media practitioners for responsible reporting.

Paralympic champion eyes gold
The 2016 Paralympic silver medalist David Emong is eying a gold medal in the forthcoming Paralympics in August in Tokyo, Japan.

Emong is among three Ugandans with disabilities that have already qualified for the championship that will start on the 5th of August to 6th September. Others are Aroma piece and Hilary Monica.

In an interview, Emong reveals to X-FM his training programme which he believes will enable him to stage a good performance in Tokyo.

The Democratic Party has launched the new memberships cards with new security seals intended to curb forgery.

During the party weekly press conference held at the party headquarters in Kampala, the party president Norbert Mao emphasized his commitment to reinstate sanity at the party.

Parliament hails Ssematimba on UACE results
Parliament has congratulated its own Busiro South MP Peter Ssematimba upon passing the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education exams.

The legislator completed A ‘level in 2019 and attained 13 points.

This motion to congratulate the MP was raised by Erute South MP Jonathan Odur and the speaker on behalf of Parliament congratulated him.
Coincidentally, in the corridors of Parliament, Sematimba met his political opponent Emmanuel Sekigozi who sued him over lack of academic qualifications.

Sekigozi asked Sematimba to withdraw his prayer for compensation from court because it's now clear he had no qualification despite court ruling otherwise.

Ssematimba insists it's the court to rule on the matter.

Two more swarms of locusts enter Uganda
Two more swarms of locusts have invaded Uganda through Amudat District.

Currently, the locusts have spread to 24 districts in the East and Northern districts of Uganda.

The State Minister for Agriculture in charge of animal Husbandry Col. Bright Rwamirama says they expect the chemicals for aerial spraying on 12th March but ground spraying is still ongoing.

Katongole joins Uganda Cranes
