Police arrest prime suspect in Bugiri Sheikh murder

The suspect admitted to having shot and killed the victim.

The Police on Wednesday arrested the main suspect in the murder of Sheikh Mutumba Masudi of Bugiri. 

Mugoya Abiyasad, a supervisor of SGA, a private security company is accused of shooting Mutumba on February 14 2020. 

According to the Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, the suspect admitted to having shot and killed the victim, were he further provided details that led to the recovery of a gun at Rubaga, which went missing on the same day of the shooting at around midday. This was after interrogation. 

The Police task team impounded a vehicle which is suspected to have transported the killers from Kampala to Bugiri. The driver has also been arrested.

"We would like to inform the public that this is a premeditated and straight forward case of murder, with personal conflict due to land wrangles, as the motivation.

The task team is now focusing on the facts and physical evidence, to clearly bring out the roles played by each of the suspects," said Enanga.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Okoth Ochola has commended the task team for their efforts this far.  The force is committed to tackling those involved in serious organised crime and in particular gun crime, and ensure perpetrators are put behind bars.

Police have urged all members of the public to remain vigilant and always alert the police, on any early warning signs of conflict, with a potential of endangering people's lives.
