The organising committee for the enthronement of Steven Kaziimba Mugalu as the 9th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda is still looking for sh490m.

The committee led by the Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa, needs sh1.16b to organise the event.

Briefing journalists on the progress of the preparations at the provincial headquarters at Namirembe in Kampala on Wednesday, Nankabirwa said; "Several items have been knocked off the budget."

The committee had planned for sh280m to renovate the Archbishop's House. A company Nankabirwa declined to name has offered to do the work at no cost.

Nakabirwa said, the outgoing Archbishop, left the house on December 30 and handed it over to the Church. Sh18m will be spent on simple renovations to be carried out on the Cathedral.

The Cathedral can accommodate over 2,000 people. Nankabirwa said the rest will follow the events on the screens which will be placed in the tents outside.

The committee is also planning to buy new chairs for all the Bishops of the Church of Uganda who will attend the event.  "We do not want to make them sit on the plastic chairs," she said. The Church has 37 serving bishops.

Nankabirwa revealed that the beatification of the Archbishop's compound will cost sh23m.

She offered to do this work using her own money. "We are already planting flowers, trees, and the beautiful compound grass," she said.

Other contributions already received include; 300 cartons of water from Wava Water and 350 others have been provided by Hill Water.

The bread and wine for Holy Communion, Nankabirwa said have been provided at a tune of sh5m by a good samaritan she did not name.  "I want to take this opportunity to thank them," she said.

The new Archbishop's car had been budgeted at about sh400m. "We informed the President about it and we have a lot of hope that he will respond well," Nankabirwa said.

The Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda who represented President Yoweri Museveni at the consecration of Bukomeko, handed a brand-new car donated by the President.

The President always donates cars to religious and cultural leaders shortly after enthronement and it is in the same spirit that the organising committee is hoping in him.

The Archbishop-elect, according to Nankabirwa, has offered to buy himself the clerical clothing he will put on that day at about sh30m.

On who will be the chief guest and the guest speaker, Nankabirwa said it is reserved for the Archbishop-elect.  "He has not yet provided any information on the matter," Nankabirwa disclosed.

She only purported that the guest preacher is most likely to be someone from outside Uganda.

The committee is also planning for over 70 foreign dignitaries who are scheduled to attend the event.

"We have already arranged hotels where they will sleep. I want to thank the Speaker of Parliament who has offered their transport inland," she said.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) according to Nankabirwa has offered to rehabilitate all roads that lead to Namirembe.

Kaziimba's consecration will be held at St. Paul Namirembe Cathedral on March 1. More than 7,000 people are expected to attend the event.

The House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda on August 28, 2019, elected Kaziimba to replace, the outgoing Archbishop, Stanley Ntagali.

Kaziimba who was the 4th bishop of Mityana Diocese handed over to the new bishop, Dr. James Bukomeko, at Namukozi in Mityana Municipality on Sunday.

He is now resting at his home in Mukono awaiting enthronement. He is waiting for the day he will be handed the pastoral stick to shepherd all of us," Nankabirwa said.

After consecration, Kaziimba will host over 1,000 special guests at an inaugural dinner at his residence.

Kaziimba will be consecrated as the Bishop of Kampala Diocese at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero, on March 8.

The preparations are ongoing according to the provincial secretary, Rev.Canon. William Ogenge.
