EC compromised, FMU clubs allege

The clubs feel that the EC has been compromised and elections may not be free and fair.

With only two days to the Federation Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) elections, a row has erupted between the Fred Obbo led electoral commission and certain clubs.

The clubs feel that the EC has been compromised and elections may not be free and fair.

Their fear stems from bulletins issued by the Electoral Commission which these candidates and clubs term as unconstitutional.

On Tuesday, the EC issued a bulletin indicating that Jude Lubega who was nominated for assistant secretary and Hussein Kato who was unopposed for the post of deputy vice president in charge of vintage do not qualify.

"We do not know where the EC is getting these regulations they are operating on. The decisions they are taking are not constitutional. Besides, they are working in isolation," UMOSPOC vice president Justin Mungoma said.

"First of all, you cannot disqualify a member without giving him a fair hearing or summoning the clubs they belong to. Hussein was nominated by UMMA and seconded by UMOSPOC and Enduro. He is a delegate and on which grounds do the EC disqualify him on?," Mungoma questioned.

Uganda Motocross Club (UMX) also questioned the authenticity of the bulletin 003, which the EC sent out disqualifying Kato and Lubega.

However, when contacted, the EC chairman Fred Obbo admitted that there was an error on the dates of bulletin 003, but denied disqualifying anyone and working in isolation.
