The former rally driver explained that he is aware of the tough task ahead, but once he becomes president he has got a short term and long-time strategy.

With the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) heading to elections on Saturday, Geoffrey Nsamba, Jack Wavamunno, Dipu Ruparelia and incumbent Dusman Okee are on ballot paper for the post of President.

However, Nsamba believes that he is the best candidate to lead the 20year-old federation to success and also upgrade its image to a corporate status.

"We are a sport with the rich participants and fans, but our leaders have failed to bank on that to bring meaningful change in the sport and that is where I want to start from when voted in office," Nsamba noted.

Notable is kick-starting the journey to professionalism by setting up structured offices with fully functioning committees including marketing, media, technical and legal.

"We have to upgrade the federation to a corporate status because when we become a legal entity, we shall attract more corporate companies to support our activities," Nsamba explained.

Improved welfare and regular training of the federation and club officials will motivate and lead to improved quality services offered by these officials.

He cited time and safety marshals who depend on competitors during events leading to cheating and increased petitions in the sport.

Nsamba also believes that on top of having contracts with their navigators, drivers should have contracts with their clubs.

As a federation they will secure a medical insurance with an international hospital cover incidents that may occur during events.

"We want to make sure that government support and FIA grants just supplements on what we have but in the long term my major target is to have our home (FMU) Headquarters where offices of all commissions are," he stressed.
