Stanbic Uganda Cup holders Proline FC advanced to the Round of 32 after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Katwe United a Big League side on Tuesday at Lugogo.
Katwe scored first through Micheal Lubowa but captain Mustafa Mujuzi equalized from the spot seven minutes into the second half.
Proline dominated the contest but was shy in front of goal, wasting a couple of chances.
They needed Hakim Kiwanuuka's 82nd minute goal to confirm their presence in the next phase of the competition.
Coach Baker Mbowa who was returning to the Proline technical bench having missed the previous matches due illness said that the win helped his side restore confidence having lost the previous two matches in the league.
"We needed this victory so badly because players' confidence had gone down having lost the previous two matches in the league,"
"I am sure this will motivate them ahead of our next league games," Mbowa stated.
Elsewhere Kigezi Home Boys ejected Kiryandongo Town council following a 3-1 win while away at Kiryandongo Church of Uganda playgrounds.
Tooro United also made it to the next round after a 3-2 victory over Starlight FC in Amuriat district.
On Monday Solomon Okwaringa and Jasper Aheebwa each scored as Mbarara City eliminated Kakira United in Jinja.
The winner of the competition that has been competed for since 1971 automatically qualifies to represent the nation in the CAF Confederation Cup.
