Over 1000 National Resistance Movement (NRM) cadres have agreed to approach the 2021 campaigns with non-violent tactics. The decision was reached at their meeting held at Bat Valley in Kampala

Under their umbrella, "Team Thorough YKM 2021," agreed not to be provoked by the opposition players to approach the campaigns with violence.

Team thorough, dates back to 2015 when President Yoweri Museveni received a group of the youth who defected from the former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi's Go Forward political pressure group.

This was after Go Forward/TDA coalition talks collapsed after parties disagreed on a joint opposition Presidential candidate protocol.

The group was then brought on board to beef-up the NRM campaign team in 2016 general elections.

The President last year flagged-off the team to traverse the country to explain and defend the government programmes on to of wooing opposition members more especially the youth to join the NRM.

"The reason why we are here is to strategize on how  we are going to win the elections come 2021 and how to break the backbone  of the opposition especially people power in urban centers, FDC, DP and others," John Mugisha, the group national coordinator, said.

He added; "We have briefed them on how to identify the opposition mobilisers and how to convince them to join and support our candidates."

People power according to Mugisha, was hell-bent at confusing young people and their work was uncovering their  lies and show direction to the younger people and those undecided to support President Museveni.

"We also addressed them on the rules and guidelines they will follow while in the field and we have made resolutions to that effect which they will follow to the latter to avoid political confusion in the field.

What we do not want is the political confusion in the field; we are a team that is learning to NRM.

Our patron is the First Lady and the President commissioned this team which means discipline is our first priority," he said.

He said the group has structures across the country from village national level with the membership over 10,000 and many others are still undergoing training at Kyankwanzi National Leadership Institute (NALI).

Arnold Musajja'kaawa, the group spokesperson reiterated that the first assignment is to oust opposition out of Kampala and deliver it to NRM.

The group has since indicated that the starting point on top of ensuring that NRM wins across the country in 2021 was to raid opposition out of Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono and Masaka.

The group outlined strategies include identifying opposition people, engage and convince them to convert to NRM.

It will also focus on the huge percentage of people who do not turn up to vote and convince them to be involved and vote for NRM candidates.

The group also plans to put many efforts towards mobilizing the youth, women, and voters from higher institutions of learning and those in the ghettos.

This comes at the time when political players are lining up strategies in the run-up to the 2021 general elections.
