Ssekandi in Maputo for president Nyusi's swearing in ceremony

Ssekandi, who was received at Maputo International Airport by the acting minister for foreign affairs, Damasco Mathe, will be joining other heads of state and government to grace the function on January 15 at the Maputo Public Squire.

The vice-president, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, has arrived in Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, who won his second term in office during last year's general elections in October. 
 
Ssekandi, who was received at Maputo International Airport by the acting minister for foreign affairs, Damasco Mathe, will be joining other heads of state and government to grace the function on January 15 at the Maputo Public Squire.
 
Nyusi of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo) party emerged victorious in October's presidential elections with a 73% margin of the total vote, winning 184 seats in parliament. RENAMO party secured 60 seats and MDM party got the remaining six in the national assembly during a 51% voter turnout, according to the country's electoral commission.
 
Nyusi was a defence minister until 2008, before running for presidency in 2015. He won under the ruling FRELIMO party, which has led the country since its Independence in 1975 and will be the fourth president of Mozambique. 
 
According to the council of ministers of Mozambique, 12 heads of state have confirmed their presence at Nyusi's inauguration ceremony. More than 3,000, delegates and envoys will participate in the event.
