MURDER

An unidentified civilian in Moyo district this afternoon grabbed a gun from a Police officer and shot him dead.

Sources said the incident happened at about 2:00pm at Afoji village, Afogi sub-county.

Efforts to get a comment from Josephine Angucia, the Police spokesperson in West Nile proved futile. However, Bob Williams Labeja, the Moyo resident district commissioner, confirmed the incident.

According to Labeja, the Police officer met his fate when he and others went to rescue someone who was being lynched by an angry mob. He said the community had pounced on a man, who is yet to be identified, accusing him of poisoning two of his farmworkers.

He, however, did not reveal the identity of the slain police officer.

"The details are still scanty, but we have lost one Police officer, who was killed with his gun by a civilian" Labeja added.

He said after the shooting, the culprit man dropped the gun on the chest of the police officer's lifeless body.

Labeja explained that no arrest has so far been made since the locals all fled the scene of crime.
