The accident occurred when the vehicle he was driving veered off the Nyalweyo-Kakumiro road and plunged into the Masaigi swamp in Kinunda village on Saturday night.

The exact time the deceased fell into the swamp is not clear.

The Kakumiro district Police commander, Najjib Waiswa, said preliminary investigations revealed that when Owere's car fell into the swamp, it was submerged in the water, which could have resulted in his drowning.

‘‘We were informed that Owere's vehicle had plunged into a swamp and that he had died. We went to the scene and retrieved his body," Waiswa said.

He added that Owere was sober the last time he saw him (at around 9:00pm the night before), so he was very surprised to hear of his death.
