Thousands turn up for UPDF recruitment

 

Over 2000 people have turned up for the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment in the Mbarara district. 

 

 
The exercise covering the districts of greater Mbarara is taking place at Kakyeka Stadium.

The UPDF started recruitment in December last year and it is ending on January 5. Five recruiting teams are traversing the whole country. 

 

 

  

According to Maj. Charles Kabona, the UPDF 2nd Division spokesperson and Western region recruitment spokesperson, the exercise started with Hoima on December 27, Kabarole on December 29, Bundibugyo on December 30, Kasese on December 31, Bushenyi on January 2 and Mbarara on Friday.

He thanked the UPDF for allowing their children to join the UPDF. He said they are interested in specific professions and non-professionals. Recruits must be 18-25 years of age, all must be single.

Great Trek kicks off

"We are aged and phasing out, the youth we refer to as Bazzukulu should be prepared to take on the mantle and carry the struggle forward, said Presidential military advisor and defense attache to Tanzania, Maj. Gen. Stephen Kashaka.

 

This was at Kololo Independence Grounds where he led a group of bush war veterans to honor and give there respect to former President of Uganda and first chairm2of NRM, Prof. YUSUF Kironde Lule.

 

This was at the eve of a six-day trek for 195km tracing the days of the NRA war struggle.

 

Ths trek that will cover seven districts will Saturday, January 4 flagged off by President Yoweri Museveni. 

 

Speaking to New Vision, Gen Kashaka said they could have committed a few mistakes here and there but advised the young generation to avoid them and carry the revolution forward.

 

The officers saluted and bowed there heads at Lule's cemetery. "The importance of this function is historical," he said.

New ministers face Parliament committee for vetting

Newly appointed ministers have been vetted today. Raphael Magyezi, minister for the local government came out of the vetting room beaming with happiness. He says he was not appointed because of the role he played in the constitutional amendment to remove age limit, but for his ability to serve. "I was only doing my job as a legislator. My job as MP is to legislate.

Nabakooba says it's Mityana voters who brought her to Parliament and now minister so she will have to go back and convince them for votes.
