End of The Weak makes comeback

KAMPALA - One of local Hip Hop's foremost contests, the annual End of The Weak Uganda, has made a comeback to the entertainment calendar.

The hip hop community, consisting of artistes and fans, converged at The Big Kafunda in Kasanga, Kampala on Saturday night to witness yet another episode of a thrilling rapping battle.

For Hip hop lovers, the show's comeback was a long wait, since it made a name in exposing the community to fresh and young rapping talent.

End of The Weak MC Challenge is a global movement of Hip Cultural improvement. The Ugandan editions look for a new talent that represents the country in the global contest.

Although the global one has been happening annually, the local edition has been in hiatus for over three years, having held the last finals in July 2016.

The Saturday show was the first elimination edition of the Ugandan Championship that looks for the champion who will represent Uganda in New York, USA in October 2020.

The show had four MCs battle, Hid 16th; Vics the Luga Phoenix; Zano Mushin and Joy the 7th Star. The competitors excited hip hop lovers with their rapping skills, occasionally attracting screams and laughter from their spectators.

They battled in five rounds, namely, Written Verse, Acapella Verse, Freestyle Bag, Beat Juggling, and Cypher. It was a tight battle, but Hid 16th emerged the winner, followed by Vics the Luga Phoenix, who got a pass card to the finals.

This will be followed by four other elimination rounds, to pick four other champions that will battle in the grand finale in June 2020.

To spice up the entertainment affair, the show was kicked off by underground rappers, Big Sam, Mapafi, and Moze Beatboxer.

Local Hip Hop Legend Lyrical G, activist rapper Bana Mutibwa got the fans bobbing to the mature rhymes, before Cyno Mc treated the audience to an acoustic session, rapping and singing with his guitar.

Saint Nellysade, the ambassador of the global competition in Uganda, crowded the evening with an act before Lyrical G announced the winners.
