Goals from Fauzia Najjemba and Juliet Nalukenge were enough to hand Uganda a 2-0 win over their Kenya counterparts and the CECAFA U-17 Girls tournament on Tuesday at the FUFA Technical Centre ground in Njeru.

The victory saw Uganda finish top of the standings with 13 points in the tournament played in a round-robin format.

Uganda beat their closest rivals Tanzania who finished second with 11 points by 2 points despite the latter thrashing Djibouti 10-0.

"The players put up a tremendous display in each and every game we played. They deserved to win the championship since from the start of the competition they showed that they were ready to give their best. I'm proud of them and I believe they have a lot in store going forward," stated coach Ayub Khalifah.

Apart from winning the title, Uganda also scored the highest number of goals (28) and conceded only one.

Uganda's Najjemba who had a tremendous performance just like teammate and skipper Nalukenge was voted the MVP of the competition while goalkeeper Daphine Nyanyenga took the golden glove accolade. Tanzania's Aisha Khamis was the top scorer with 12 goals while Burundi won the fair play award.

A total of 95 goals were scored with 24 yellow cards and one red card issued at the tournament.
