DIFILEMENT   GIRL CHILD

KAMPALA - The police detectives have identified another defilement victim who has accepted to testify against the school director in Mpigi for allegedly defiling her.

A 16-year-old student (names withheld) has come out and told the police that she was ready to write a statement pinning Asudu Wamala, the Director of Wamala Primary and Secondary School in Mpigi district for allegedly defiling her during the month of November this year.

Wamala who has been at large on allegations of aggravated defilement, unlawfully and indecently assaulting a 17-year-old girl was Thursday, November 28th, at 6:00PM arrested from Kikyusa in Luwero district where he was hiding.

The arrest followed a directive by President Yoweri Museveni to the Inspector General of Police to hunt and prosecute the suspect.

While addressing the Uganda Police Council at the police headquarters in Naguru a fortnight ago, President Museveni said he had learnt of the disturbing story in the media of the saga at the school where Wamala (46-years) and other teachers were accused of aggravated defilement.

The president was concerned that the suspects were arrested and later released on bail from court.

The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) spokesperson, Charles Twiine confirmed that Wamala was arrested on Thursday.

"Colleagues we can confirm that our detectives commanded by the Regional CID officer Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) South, Detective Superintendent of Police Vincent Okurut   arrested the suspect," he stated in a statement to the media.

Twiine added that the suspect was facing charges of aggravated defilement, unlawful and indecently assaulting a 17-year old girl, contrary to Section 129 3, 4 (c) of the Penal Code Act.

But in addition, he said, another student came up and was willing to pin the same person.

"And inevitably, the suspect is going to be interrogated in regard to the new allegations and also other investigation processes will be undertaken," he stated.

Twiine said the charges have been sanctioned by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), ‘after an evaluation of the evidence that was assembled by our team of investigators and confirming that it can warrant prosecution'.

According to Twiine, the ‘suspect committed the above alleged cases on 3rd and 4th November 2019 respectively at Wamala Secondary School located in Mpambire Village, Mpigi District'.

He said the police were grateful to the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola and the director CID, Grace Akullo whose strategic involvement, he said, had led to the arrest of the suspect.

"We are also grateful to the detectives who reviewed the file and later discovered the evidence that can sustain the charges of defilement," he added.

Twiine commended the media who he said published ‘this unfortunate incident, and resiliently remained steady fast in the fight against this crime of shame'.

He added, "Remember injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. Together we can make Uganda a crime free society".

The students complained that Wamala has been allegedly been accessing their dormitory and would pick their colleagues and take them to his house or take them to other places for sex.

The victims also recently revealed traumatic tales of how Wamala has been allegedly subjecting them to rape and defilement.
