Over 300 UPDF servicemen complete tank crew course

The crew which was instructed by the Russian military specialists, and other UPDF instructors at Karama, was passed out on Thursday by President Yoweri Museveni and the Commander-in-Chief of Uganda Armed Forces.

The Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) has passed out a new tank crew, which has been undergoing training for one year at the Armoured Warfare Training School (AWTS) in Karama, Mubende district.

The crew which was instructed by the Russian military specialists, and other UPDF instructors at Karama, was passed out on Thursday by President Yoweri Museveni and the Commander-in-Chief of Uganda Armed Forces.

The President congratulated the trainees upon the completion of their training in various courses.

 
Among the courses included the ‘tank T-90 crew training course', instructed by Russian instructors.

Russia also supported the UPDF tank crew in preparation for this year's concluded International Army Games in Russia; where UPDF's tank crew reached the finals in it groups; and merged the best tank crew among all African teams which participated, in the Tank Biathlon competitions.

President Museveni expressed satisfaction with the skills demonstrated by the over 300 graduands; especially in areas target identification, acquisition and destruction among others.

 
He applauded the instructors and the UPDF in general for their exceptional work.

He noted that the excellent performance displayed by the graduands, was a clear indication that they had fully internalized what they had been taught.

The trainees were drawn from various UPDF units and were taken through several topics like; design, tactics, military law, medical and public health, and political education among others.

President Museveni thanked the expatriates for sharing their valuable knowledge with the newly trained crew.

 
He said their (expatriates) cooperation has been standing, dates back as far as 1917 during the struggle for Africa's freedom.

The Chief of Defense Forces, Gen David Muhoozi said the training will go a long way in helping soldiers to cope with the ever-changing training requirements.

Muhoozi said this is aimed at ensuring that the army is better and ready to protect the country.
