Sheema receives sh500m to upgrade Kashozi Health center II

The new health center III is to have a maternity ward, a general ward for men and women plus staff quarters for medical staffs.

SHEEMA - Government through the Ministry of Finance has advanced sh500m out of the sh532m that was earmarked to upgrade Kashozi health center Ⅱ to health center III in Sheema district.

Elioda Tumwesigye the minister for Science, Innovation, and Technology, while officiating the groundbreaking to kick start the construction, said the government has put much effort into improving health in the country by empowering lower health units.

Tumwesigye who doubles as the area Member of Parliament for Sheema municipality said in the whole of western Uganda, six health centerⅡ's are to be upgraded to health center III status. 

"By doing this, the government is aiming at improving the health standards in communities by ensuring that these health units are equipped to reduce on the number of mothers who die in labor and those far from hospitals," Said Tumwesigye.

The upgrade will be done by Miriam and Brothers Construction Company.  

He warned constructors to ensure that quality work is delivered within the contractual period of six months.

However, Justine Barekye the town clerk Sheema municipality noted with concern that the deficit of sh32m needed to be delivered as soon as possible.

Abel Kahara the Mayor Sheema municipality said they have instituted a six-member project management committee that will supervise the contractor.

"This is to ensure that work is done according to the bills of quantity," Kahara said

However, he warned the committee from interfering and sabotaging the contractor adding that they should corporate with the contractor and also inform the council on the progress.
