Proceeds from this year’s run will go towards improving maternal health in different health facilities across the country.

Stanbic Bank has once again committed sh250m towards this year's MTN Kampala Marathon that will be held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on November 24.

Stanbic Bank's Chief Executive Patrick Mweheire flanked by the bank's Head of Corporate Investment and Banking Emma Mugisha presented the cheque to MTN CEO Wim Vanhelleputte during a press conference at the bank's boardroom Tuesday.

"We've been a partner for so many years and we hope to continue with this partnership for so many years to come. We do buy into giving back to the community, and maternal health is one initiative which needs all our support to save lives of mothers and children as we supplement government resources," Mweheire said.

"I want to commend MTN for once again seeking out an area that needs help and applying these resources and I wish them another great marathon that has become a signature event," Mweheire stated.

Wim said the marathon was about giving towards a good cause and participating, with an element of fun but also encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

"It is a great event and it makes us proud that our relationship with Stanbic goes beyond business and it is very touching to see that they can commit such an amount to such a good course," Wim said.

He noted that the needs towards maternal health were so many that even a consecutive year contribution could not still be enough but that they would have contributed over sh2b over the two years towards the course.

The marathon heads to Arua this Sunday for the second of three regional events before the Masaka one that will be held on November 17 starting from the Masaka Recreation Ground.

Registration for all the upcountry runs has been set at sh8,000 using mobile money and sh10,000 for the physical registrations. Registration for the Kampala run is sh23,000 using MOMO and sh25,000 respectively.

Participants can easily register by dialing *165*77# and paying via mobile money.

Proceeds from this year's run will go towards improving maternal health in different health facilities across the country.

The Marathon is organised in conjunction with other key partners; Vision Group, Stanbic Bank, Huawei and Rwenzori Mineral Water, Uganda Police, Spedag and Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF).
