Kenya's Justus Madoya wins Castle Lite Entebbe Open

Kenya's Justus Madoya produced one his best performances returning a nine-under 275 over 72 holes to win the Castle Lite Entebbe Open at Entebbe Club on Saturday.

The Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort's 33-year-old player consequently bagged his first major win since turning pro two years ago and grabbing the biggest share of the sh40m kitty, taking home sh6m.

He also bagged an extra 50 Safari Tour points from the Entebbe tournament, taking his tally to 110.5pts from the four events played thus far.

"It feels good winning this because I have been fighting to win at least one tournament to open the door in my professional career, so it is good I have gotten one; it feels great," Madoya said.

"My last round was fantastic I had great shots from the tees and I had good recovery and all my second shots were good and everything else about my game today was good.

"Last year I made the cut in the Kenya Open and this win keeps me on track to play there again. "Thanks to the organizers for putting up these tournaments because we can now play at least twice a month and if we continue like this, I think East African golfers will raise their game hope to play there again and I have

Madoya scored four birdies and one bogey for a three-under 68 in the last round to seal the win with 8 strokes ahead of Dismas Indiza who displaced Uganda's
Herman Mutaawe from second. Indiza's one stroke advantage over Mutaawe will have him taking home sh4m while the latter will pocket sh3m.

"I didn't start well and my third round return was not good enough and today I also dropped some shots on the front nine but let us see what will come out of the Serena leg. I'm heading straight to the driving range to prepare for the Serena leg," Mutaawe stated.

Other Ugandans; Silver Opio, Ronald Rugumayo and Deo Akope finished 8th, 9th and 10th respectively while David Kamulindwa, Phillip Kasozi and Brian Toolit were 13th, 17th and 20th respectively.

This year's Entebbe Open is part of the Safari Tour and is the fourth in a series of 12 tournaments that will constitute the 2019/20 Safari Tour, that will see golfers play in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya, culminating with the 2020 Magical Kenya Open set to be hosted at the Karen Country Club from March 12-15 2020.
