The Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda this (Tuesday) afternoon was the keynote speaker at the South Africa-Uganda business summit at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
He said the foreign direct investments to Uganda from South Africa have increased to $1.3b in 2018, a huge growth from $803m in 2017.
"This has helped to grow the country's FDI stock to 13.3b$ in 2018, which is equivalent to 48% of the country's GDP," he said.
Rugunda said there are over 70 South Africa registered companies in Uganda with an asset base of over $3b.
However, the delegates tasked the Government to do more in terms of creating better business-enabling policies so that it is not only South Africa that benefits more in the partnership hence creating a deficit.

Musician Eddy Kenzo returns today
Eddy Kenzo's fans have flocked Entebbe International Airport to accord him a heroic welcome. Kenzo who on Saturday won the Best Entertainer Of The Year award at the African Entertainment Awards held at Kupfrian Hall, Jim Wise Theater, New Jersey, US is expected to arrive in the country today ( Tuesday).
The Sitya Loss singer beat African entertainers like Tanzania's Diamond Platnumz, Nigeria's Davido, Shatta Wale, Wizkid, Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage to the award.
Kenzo, who has also been on a tour in the US has lately been in the local news for his spat with the outspoken religious leader, Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata following the latter's stinging comments at the singer's ex-girlfriend (Rema Namakula)'s traditional wedding ceremony. Kadaga flags off Miss Tourism to Malaysia
Miss Tourism Uganda 2019, Phiona Kyeru is setting off to Malaysia today (Tuesday) for Miss Tourism International contests, where finals are slated for November 09. The speaker bought for Kyeru a ticket and wondered why the government has no channels to support such initiatives noting that the former Miss Uganda Queen Abenakyo also faced the same challenges. Parliament summons buveera traders
The Natural Resources Committee is meeting the management of plastic products (Kaveera), stakeholders(Uganda Plastics Manufacturers Association) and various ministers. This is as a result of a petition to the Speaker by the Uganda manufacturers and recyclers who challenged a cabinet resolution to set up a committee headed by Eng. John Byabagambi to prepare cabinet paper on whether to close or not to close the plastics and recycling plants, months after the National Environment Act has just been passed by the Parliament.
