Uganda 67 Zambia 33

Uganda bounced back from a challenging opening day in which opponents Zimbabwe missed the match to land a few blows against Zambia in their 67-33 victory at The Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town.

Mary Nuba was the star of the show as the She Cranes laid siege on the Zambians goal. Her height was too hot to handle as Uganda's centre Stella Oyella and wing attacker Jesca Achan used the long ball against the Zambian defence.

Coach Rashid Mubiru went with the tried and tested pairing of Nuba and Irene Eyaru which worked wonders.

Oyella showed good versatility at centre while Shaffie Nalwanja's debut on the big stage was impressive at wing defence. Nalwanja was very agile and picked up enough interceptions capping off a good debut.

Goal defence Joan Nampungu and goalkeeper Stella Nanfuka were efficient all through the match, earning their withdrawals in the fourth quarter ahead of a busy Sunday schedule.

The She Cranes will now turn their focus to their match against Lesotho and South Africa where two wins will put them in the driver's seat.

In Lesotho, they will face a side struggling for form. South Africa set a new scoring record against them in the 116-10 win on Friday and they also lost to Kenyan 74-24 earlier.

Although Zimbabwe missed the match against Uganda on Friday the match has not been flagged as a walkover and it could be rescheduled.
