Police in Bukedea district are hunting for two people suspected to have trailed the area's Woman representative in Parliament.

Legislator Anita Among is said to have been followed by "strange men" Wednesday night last week.

The district's Police commander, Ezra Tugume, confirmed the incident, saying the suspects managed to flee after Police tried to pursue them.

"We received information from the locals about two strange men who were riding on a motorbike and immediately dispatched a team to intercept them," he said.

"Unfortunately, they vanished before we could apprehend them. The hunt is on."

Among told the New Vision she had been alerted by Tugume immediately Police had been tipped off.

The suspects are reported to have been riding towards her home.

The 45-year-old MP was previously the deputy chair of the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE).

Abdu Katuntu, who represents Bugweri County in Parliament, chaired the committee.

gg Abdu Katuntu previously chaired COSASE, with Anita Among as his deputy

Among is a long-time member of the Opposition FDC party, who ran for the Bukedea seat in 2016 as an independent candidate, emerging triumphant.

She was recently hailed by President Yoweri Museveni for developing her constituency. While opening up her community radio in Bukedea in April this year, the President urged other leaders to emulate Among to change the status quo of their people.

At the time, the President also launched a number of projects, including a science laboratory at Bukedea Comprehensive School and also laid a foundation stone for Bukedea Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, Wednesday night's incident has not shaken the Bukedea legislator, who says she is "not scared".

"I had travelled to the constituency to hand over 250 brand new bicycles to catechists and Anglican Church leaders and had just returned home when I got the call from the DPC," she told New Vision.

"Our security was immediately reinforced and I was asked to head back to Kampala. But I am not scared and heading back to my home in Bukedea to be with my people."

Police's Tugume said the district has insecurity issues and that they had decided to install a Police post at Kolir sub-county to ensure they address the matter.

He also appealed to the members of the public to be on the lookout for any suspicious person and always alert the security apparatus.
