Missing woman, driver killed

Both the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence and Internal Security Organisation had joined the hunt. The hunt is now on for the suspects.

The police have recovered two bodies in Nakitutulu in Nama Sub-county, on the Mukono-Kayunga road.

The bodies were identified as that of Maria Nagirinya and Ronald Kitayimbwa who went missing on Wednesday night.

Her father Francis Anthony Lubowa, has confirmed the murder of his daughter Maria Nagirinya Gateni.

"It's true my daughter was murdered we failed to save her," then he broke off the call.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the recovery noting that Kitayimbwa's body was identified by his brother.

"We have already identified one of the bodies as that of Kitayimbwa but who was Nagirinya's driver but we cannot confirm whether the body recovered is that of Nagirinya until we speak to the family," Onyango said.

 

However, her workmates and some of her family members who rushed to the scene confirmed it was Nagirinya's body that had been recovered.

One of the residents who had gone to cut grass discovered the driver's body and made an alarm which attracted other residents. On searching, they also recovered Nagirinya's body. Both bodies were partly covered by grass.

 

Nagirinya who was a staff of CIDI (Community Integrated Development Initiatives (CIDI) a Non-Government Organisation that works in the Water and Sanitation sub-sector on Wednesday night at around 11 pm shortly after his younger sister had opened for her the gate by two men who trailed her to their rented premises at Lungujja-Busega Community zone.

According to her close friend Rose Mwambazi, Nagirinya attended a training at the NGO's office in Muyenga on Wednesday and left at 2 pm. "We had training in Muyenga CIDI offices that ended at 2:00 pm and she then drove away even before having lunch. We didn't know where she went. At around 11 pm, we received a call from her father who reported she had been kidnapped," Mwambazi said.

On Thursday morning, the family reported a kidnap case at Busega Kibumbubiro police station under reference 04/29/08/2019. Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed they had opened up a case and also recorded statements.

On Thursday night, Nagirinya's car was found abandoned Spacio Car registration number UBA 570 V. "The car was abandoned in between 9-10 pm and our officers visited the scene and cordoned it off and deployed a team of policemen to guard. The car had been locked. This morning (Friday) our investigation team has visited the scene to dust of the car and pick any piece of evidence including fingerprints," Onyango said
