The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) has beefed up security at Ayivuni in Arua district, following the brutal murder of the Officer in Charge of Ayivuni Police Post.

Chadwong Santo, was allegedly attacked by unknown people; who ended his life gruesomely and took off with his gun.

Police said they have intensified the hunt for the killers who are suspected to have come from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

"We used our sniffer dogs and they took us to the border. This shows the assailants crossed to the other side. We have alerted our counterparts over the matter and the hunt is ongoing to get the assailants," the police spokesperson, Fred Enanga noted.

He stressed that preliminary investigations show that, the assailants took advantage of his lonely presence at the post.

"His colleague was away and had not reported from leave. They managed to take his gun with 55 rounds of ammunition," he said.

Enanga said they managed to get the fingerprints of the assailants and a footprint of the assailants. "It shows that attacker was barefooted and might have come from DRC. It is just about a few kilometers to the border," he added.

He said the UPDF had deployed to ensure tight security in the area following various murders which have been going on
