Lady Cranes are daring to dream

The four-team tournament is the first of its kind, winner of which will get an automatic place at the 2021 World Cup.

The Lady Rugby Cranes have it all to do as they take on South Africa, Kenya and Madagascar for a Rugby Women's World Cup qualifying spot in South Africa from August 9-17.

The four-team tournament is the first of its kind, winner of which will get an automatic place at the 2021 World Cup.

The team jet off to South Africa early this morning armed with optimism and determination for the competition ahead. Before this, the women were in a training camp in Jinja away from the hustle and bustle of the city as the technical team ironed out a few things.

"We have been working on team bonding; kick-off, lineouts and of course defence which was our undoing in the Elgon Cup," team coach Edgar Lemerigar said.

The idea is to ensure mutual respect for each teammate even after they go back to compete in their respective clubs.

Continuity is key

His immediate plans are centred on building a team that has continuity after close to five years without playing 15s rugby internationally. He has faith in this blended
group to get at least a win while in South Africa.

"My focus in South Africa will be ongoing one game at a time because I want to see that this team is built stronger that it was five years ago," he added.

His blended mix of old plus young will see some debutants at the tournament including Esther Tino from Mbale.
