37 to get ordained at Kitovu Cathedral

Today's celebrations in Masaka will see 19 deacons become priests and 18 seminarians ordained deacons.

MASAKA - Today's ordination at Our Lady of Sorrows Diocese Cathedral - Kitovu in Masaka will see 19 deacons become priests and 18 seminarians ordained deacons.

The morning function is to be presided over by the new Bishop of Masaka, Serverus Jjumba.

Fr. Ronald Mayanja, who is in charge of communication at the diocese, said Bishop Emeritus John Baptist Kaggwa and several priests are the co-celebrants.

Each individual will promise obedience, before being ordained.

Mayanja says that the celebrations will also see the new bishop officially take over his chair as Diocesan Bishop at the Cathedral.

Of the 19 deacons set make a transition to priesthood, 16 have been diocesan deacons and three have been missionaries from Comboni, Capuchin Franciscan Friar and Blessed Sacrament Congregation.

Masaka is one of the Ecclesiastical Provinces of Kampala Archdiocese.

Masaka diocese has 55 parishes, with priests from St. Charles Lwanga, Our Lady of Victoria and Vincentian Priests.

The diocese covers the civic districts of Bukomansimbi, Kalangala, Kalungu, Kyotera, Lwengo, Lyantonde, Masaka, Rakai and Ssembabule.

Ronald Ssebyanzi, Anthony Ssekwe Mukasa, Augustine Ssembajjwe, Jean Baptist Musiitwa, Michael Ssebutinde, Yoana Batesta Kayondo (Jr), Benedicto Kato Lukakaba, Marcellino Mulindwa, Joachim Patrick Onyango, Denis Ssenkasi, Martin Ssali,  Paul Kato, Richard Mugisha (Jr), Frank Muteesaasira, Gonzaga Kiyimba, Godfrey Kyakoonye, Gyaviira Kasozi, Herbert Nsambu and Emmanuel Kiyemba.
