Seven pinned over Masaka hardware robbery

The witness told the court that Kiwanuka together with seven others raided Muto Hardware and stole an unspecified amount of money and killed two people on spot.

MASAKA- The witness told the court that Kiwanuka and seven others raided Muto Hardware Shop in Masaka Town and stole an unspecified amount of money and killed two people.

Testifying before the General Court Martial(GCM), the witness detective Constable Akello Joy said that the retired corporal together with seven others raided Muto Hardware belonging to Moses Kaliisa and stole an unspecified amount of money and killed two people, Kiggundu Shafik, a casual labourer, and Moses Musinguzi, a guard who was working at the hardware.

She was testifying in the case in which Kiwanuka Paul together with seven others are accused of murder and aggravated robbery under the guidance of Lt Col Raphael Mugisha. The case was presided by a seven-member panel headed by Lt Gen Andrew Gutti.

The witness told the court that Kiwanuka together with seven others raided Muto Hardware and stole an unspecified amount of money and killed two people on spot.

Joy narrated that on 1 July 2018, she got a call from her boss at 8:30 am informing her about a murder at Muto Hardware Shop in Masaka. Immediately she went to the scene of the crime and many people had gathered to see what had happened and so she decided to cordon off the area.

‘'I started processing the crime scene, mapping and moving around to see what had really happened and i saw a man in a pool of blood and when I checked the body, I saw bullet wounds on the side of the head.'' she narrated.

Joy told the court that she further went ahead to photograph the body and saw a cartridge on the side of the head and on inquiring from nearby sources, she was told it was Shafik Kiggundu, a casual labourer at the hardware who eventually died on the way to the hospital.

Thereafter, Joy went ahead to document the crime scene inside and took photographs, got the cartridges and took them as exhibits and finally removed the body of Moses Musinguzi the bodyguard and took it to Masaka mortuary for further examination.

Background

It will be noted that on 1 July 2018, Kiwanuka Paul together with seven others attacked Masaka Hardware shop and stole an unspecified amount of money and killed two people.

The prosecution alleges that the seven suspects and others still at large attacked and robbed a hardware shop owned by Moses Kaliisa using a Sub Machine Gun(SMG) riffle registration UG/UPDF/49029251 with 30 rounds of ammunition causing the death of Shafik Kiggundu and Moses Kiggundu.

The other suspects include Matia Kiiza Bukenya, Jumba Derrick, Waliggo John Bosco, Kayemba Steven, Tweheyo Julius aka Rutwigi, Kankaka Gerevazio and Wakube Imran who was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to the charges.

The case was adjourned to 12 August for further hearing
