KAMPALA - When Diamond Platnumz is in town, the "Zari talk" cannot be ignored. He was in town last week, and indeed, he trended much for his relationship with Ugandan socialite, Zari Hassan.

But when he steps on stage, the reason he is more known for - music— reigns supreme. The Number One hitmaker is a crowd thriller. Platnumz was in town for the third time, expectations were high for the pop songster's act.

He headlined the weekly comedy show, Comedy Store at UMA Shows Grounds on Thursday evening. As expected, the show registered to a great extent beyond its usual turn-up, despite the late confirmation of his performance.

But it was a comedy show, anyway. Thus, much of the show's content was a comedy buffet from some of the top stand-up comics in Kampala, spiced up by Kenyan comic Eric Omondi. The line-up that included Maulana and Reign, Mariachi, Senga Nantume, and Godi Godi, rubbed everyone's funny bone. The audience was in stitches for the bigger part of the night.

However, when Omondi and the show's host, Alex Muhangi announced Diamond Platnumz, it was clear who the audience really waited for. He came in with Tetema, a current club banger around East Arica. It was an instant thriller. Those who had space were on their feet in a few minutes to groove to the now popular dance around the region.

Platnumz, backed by equally energetic dancers, would then take the audience on a roller coaster of his music. Hit after hit. The Wasafi Records boss is a performer. He knows how to warm up and drive the crowd to his vibe. Every song he touched, the audience screamed. Ladies adore Platnumz, and some were seen jumping onto the stage to hang him.

Clearly, one could see that even after two previous acts in the country, Ugandans had not gotten enough of the Tanzanian pop star, who is also scheduled to perform at the Uganda Festival in New York, USA. Organised by Ugandans in North America Association (UNAA) Causes, the event is slated for August 29- September 2.

For an hour, there was no time the crowd was seen restful and just watching on. He engaged them with captivating dances and hits, and revelers sang and danced along.
