Vision Group wires Bayimba festival

KAMPALA - The annual Bayimba festival of the arts is in the offing. And this year, Vision Group is on board to add a bone on the much-anticipated event. Under its platforms, XFM, Urban TV, and The Kampala Sun, the media powerhouse is one of the main sponsors of the festival due August 1 to 4, 2019.
The four-day festival will take place at Lunkulu Island in Mukono district. In its 12th Edition, Bayimba festival is the oldest arts festival in the country. It features various art forms in one place.
At a press conference announcing the partnership, XFM's station manager, Ghislain Masamba, was excited about the deal which he said will be dear and of value to the station's ardent listeners.

"The average XFM listener is about the fun but also loves Uganda and their local artists. At this festival, our listeners will be able to watch a diverse range of favourite local artists and some International showcasing their craft," Masamba said.
Faisal Kiwewa, the creative director of Bayimba festival, said the festival's space on the Island offers a unique experience to its revellers. After running for a decade in Kampala, mainly at the National Theatre, the festival got a new home last year, which is Lunkulu Island.

"The second year on the Island, we have been trying to create a space that is going to offer a very unique and personal experience. We are programming a festival where you are going to spend four days and have everything that you need. You won't miss home," Kiwewa said.
The festival is curated to have various entertainment activities, including cinema, fashion shows, cultural displays, exhibitions, games, and accompanied by food and drinks. They will also be an adventure that comes with the Island, such as trekking and jungle relaxing. For the music performances, the festival will have three mainstages that will present artistes, from mainly Uganda. "It is going to run 24 hours for the four days," Kiwewa said.
Tickets are on sale at the festival's website. The lucky XFM listeners and Urban TV viewers will win free tickets to the festival.
