The Police in Mpigi is investigating circumstances under which a group of unknown assailants attacked a family and hacked two people to death, injuring one.

According to Joseph Turya, the Katonga region police spokesperson, the deceased was recovered on Monday morning by a resident who went to Nabugwako's home to collect banana peelings for his cattle  and when he knocked at the door, there was no response and he was forced to  open the door on hearing a young girl screaming.

"One of the residents who had gone to collect banana peelings for his cattle was the first to get the information when he opened the door after knocking without getting any response," Turya said.

"The two bodies were found lying in a pool of blood while another juvenile was screaming yearning for help in the sitting room" Turya added.

Turya added that preliminary investigations indicate that the incident took place on Sunday night when the assailants attacked the family and slaughtered them to death.

Police from Mpigi central police station with a team of detectives arrived at the scene with a sniffer dog and carried out some investigations at the scene of the crime.

Rosemary Nalwanga, a resident at the same village said the deceased had a land dispute with some residents over the ownership of the land on which they are settled and the matters were before the Mpigi chief magistrate's court.

The attackers went away with the land title for the disputed land after the murder and locked the house which rose suspicion that the attackers are connected to the people whom they have been feuding over the land.

Joseph Turya said Police have arrested two people in connection to the incident but declined to reveal the particulars of the suspects saying it will jeopardise the Police investigations.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mulago Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured victim a female juvenile is still nursing injuries at Nkozi Hospital.
