Museveni, Magufuli discuss oil pipeline

Jul 14, 2019

The visit comes at a time when Uganda and Tanzania are organising the first ever business forum scheduled for September

President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday paid a one-day private visit to Tanzania and held bilateral talks with President John Magufuli.

The talks took place at Magufuli's country home in Chato, northern Tanzania.

Museveni described the visit as a "pilgrimage" adding that while Catholics travel to Rome in Italy and Muslims go to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, for him he travels to Tanzania.

The visit comes at a time when Uganda and Tanzania are organising the first ever business forum scheduled for September at the Julius Nyerere International Convergence Center in Dar-es-Salaam.

Museveni's visit also comes a week after the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, visited Magufuli and held bilateral talks at Chato.

During his visit to Chato, Uhuru also visited Magufuli's mother.

In a short address to Tanzanians, Museveni said no one will sow seeds of division among East Africans.

On Friday, Museveni travelled to Angola for a one-day quadripartite summit, where he held bilateral talks with President Paul Kagame of Rwanda.

Museveni and Kagame were invited to Luanda by the President of Angola, Joao Lourenco.

Uganda and Tanzania are jointly working on the multi-billion East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) from Tanga to Hoima.
