Bafumbira World Quiz night: Celebrating culture, tradition

The head of publicity at Bafumbira World, Gilbert Rwalinda said the quiz night is also one of the buildup activities for the forthcoming mega event dubbed “ Iwacu Heza” slated for October this year at Uganda Museum.

The long-awaited second edition of Bafumbira World quiz night, an event aimed at promoting unity and celebrating cultural heritage through food, music, and games took place at Iwanza Bar and Restaurant in Kamwokya on Friday.
 
The event was graced by hundreds of partygoers who enjoyed lots of muchomo and drank ‘nturire (sorghum drink)  and other kinds of drinks to their fill.
 
 Through different quizzes about Kisoro's geophysical features, Bafumbira living in and around Kampala get to rekindle their connection with their South Western Uganda home district, Kisoro.

"The fest is happening in October at the Uganda Museum where we celebrate the rich ethnic-culture heritage. Our core responsibility as Bafumbira World remains focused on identity, networking, and charity," he said.
 
Unlike in the past, there was no performance from Kisoro based artistes who used to thrill artistes. On the agenda, used to be performances from Kisoro based hip-hop artiste Derrick Urayeneza commonly known as MC Slender, King Derio, and Easy Moze among many others.
 
Questions asked?
It was competitive in nature where people grouped themselves while answering questions and the winning team walked away with sh350, 000 cash prize. The first runner up got a  cash prize worth sh 150,000 while the second runner up received sh 100,000.
 
Most prominent yet difficult questions include the distance from Kampala to Kisoro, Kisoro's largest mineral deposit and a number of Rufumbira riddles.
 
At the end, it was a thrilling moment coupled with aura ordinary excitement as Team Inkotanyi was declared the winner. It was by Wakanda and then Makeba.
The Bafumbira World according to Rwalinda since its inception in 2016 started and has been supporting access to medical insurance to elderly people living in Kisoro.
 
Among the projects, Bafumbira World introduced include the  Healthy Aging Initiative (HAI) that is implemented in partnership with Mutolere Hospital in Kisoro.
 
Businessman, Erasmus Mugisha, the quiz night sponsor said social such events are critical in bringing together Kampala based Bafumbira to discuss how they can participate in the socio-economic transformation of their home area.
 
"Everybody comes here, they mingle, connect and network. This is the second quiz night that I am attending," he said.
