KAMPALA - Singer Kenneth Mugabi's star continues to shine brighter. His fan base is steadily growing wider by every other stage performance. But as his new fans get to know and enjoy his past recorded soulful tunes, the songster prepares to release a compilation of his new music.

Mugabi is set to launch his new Album, Ugandan on June 29, 2019. His second album, Ugandan will be launched with a John-Walker themed listener's party at Design Hub, Kampala.

Mugabi's career has so far been molded more as a performer than a recording artist, and it is his thrilling acts that have won him quite a following. On stage with his guitar, he croons his way into the hearts of the audience in no longer than a verse of a song.

When Mugabi released his first Album in 2016- then under Kwanza Music -the reception it got, according to his manager, singer Joe Kahirimbanyi, "was overwhelming." Many had watched him perform the songs on various stages, so perhaps they loved a recorded form for convenient consumption.

Kibunomu- the debut album- launched Mugabi -a 2013 Rated-Next participant - into the mainstream music circuit. Off the album was Naki, which was a hit on local airwaves. He admits the song earned him more stage time and thus a following.

His first concert, Strings of My Soul in October 2018, was a sellout. It saw National Theatre auditorium packed to the brim, with the audience sounding like a choir, singing along word by word.

The new album has 13 tracks, with four collaborations, which feature songstresses; Angella Kalule, Maureen Nantume, and Iryn Namubiru.

"I want to bridge the gap between what people call music for downtown and that for uptown. I am so aware of the impact of collaborations in an artist's career," Mugabi explained his decision to collaborate with the artistes.

The album also features pre-released songs like his now crowd favorite Nkwegomba and Olugendo, a collabo with Iryn Namubiru.

"This album is titled Ugandan because it relates to a story of Ugandan youth. His daily struggles, hopes, and joys of life," he said at Tuesday evening presser where he sampled some of his music.
