Obore challenges IGG report

The director of communication and public affairs at Parliament, Chris Obore, has asked the court to quash the Inspectorate of Government (IG) report that queries his appointment.

The report recommended for the review of the recruitment process, which culminated in the appointment of Obore, as the director of communication and public affairs.

"I request that an order is issued against the Attorney General and the Parliamentary Commission from implementing the recommendations arising from the IG's report," Obore requested.

He made the request in an application he filed before the Civil Division of the High Court on Friday, through Kampala Associated Advocates.

Obore contends that the IG report is grossly unreasonable and irregular, arguing that it was arrived at in utter disregard of the principles of fairness and natural justice.

"The report is tainted with manifest bias, discrimination and malice," he argues.

Obore says he was not given a fair hearing, which was in total violation of the inherent constitutional provisions on the principles of natural justice.

He contends that the report is illegal as the IG's issuance of the recommendations undermines the independence and constitutional mandate of the Parliamentary Commission.

Recently, Justice Henrietta Wolayo temporarily halted the Parliamentary Commission from sacking Obore, pending a determination of the case.

In his affidavit, Obore says he has been in the said position since August 2015.
