Apolo Robin Nsibambi, Uganda's longest serving Prime Minister, will be buried today. A leader who had an extraordinary record of public service, work ethic and a sense of humour to match.

Nsibambi, 78, succumbed to pulmonary embolism Tuesday last week, at his home in Bulange-Mengo, Rubaga division, Kampala. In the course of last week, elected and past politicians, cultural and religious leaders alike, have spoken admiringly of Nsibambi as leaving behind a towering legacy of unshakable strength, boundless energy and transformative leadership.

Nsibambi's will be buried today, at Buloba Church of Uganda, Kasero on Mityana Road, where his first wife, Rhoda and other close family relatives including his father, were buried. Nsibambi's final resting place is part of 88 acres of land that his late father Simeon Nsibambi, bequeathed to the local church in Buloba.

Before burial at 4:00pm in Kasero, Nsibambi's body will be taken to St Paul's Cathedral Namirembe for a funeral service, according to the Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda. Nsibambi is equally praised for practising his faith in concrete ways, never missing church services, despite his busy schedule.

A reknown stickler for keeping time, Nsibambi leaves behind a wife Esther and four children. Lawmakers across the political divide last week lauded Nsibambi as a man of deep conviction, who exuded integrity and a patriot of the highest order.
