Kawempe community health facility given a facelift

The communities of Kawempe- Mbogo have reason to celebrate after their health centre received a facelift.

The in charge of the facility, Janat Adongo explained to the donors that the facility never had a waiting area, a Family planning unit which development partners have helped build.
 
Adong said that facility now registers more patients than before because of the facelift.
 
"The outpatient department has been receiving 10 patients daily but it has now increased to 20 patients. The family planning unit was only receiving two patients but that number has tripled," she said.

 A representative of the community said the 40-year-old facility was dilapidated and needed to be rehabilitated.
 
Dr. Isaiah Chebrot, the District Health Officer said Kawempe is one of the biggest slums in Kampala and the population needs more health facilities to cater for the residents.
 
Chebrot said that with a population of about 50,000 residents, health services especially family planning is a priority.
 
The Mayor of Kawempe Emmanuel Sserunjogi also praised the work done on the facility but decried inadequate funding from the central government.
