As it has been the norm for the last 56 years, Africa will this Saturday come together to celebrate the Africa Day 2019.

This day was put in place in 1963 by Organization of African Union (OAU) which is present day African Union. The main reason was to celebrate Africa and its cultures.

In the past, Uganda has been holding high profile summits in high end hotels to discuss Africa's problems as a way of celebrating the day. However, this year it's going to be different with fun and flair in it. This year's official celebrations will take place at Capital Kitchen in Kampala on May 25.

According to Pan African Women Organization (PAWO) who are the main organizers of the celebrations, this year the day will seek to celebrate Africa's food, culture, film and music.

According to Grace Kabayo the Executive Secretary of PAWO, they have partnered with African Movie Night Kampala to showcase some African movies so that Ugandans can appreciate the potential and diversity in our film industry.

"Besides the films, we shall have a thrilling display of African dishes. We have partnered with Capital Kitchen to prepare dishes from each of the 54 African countries. This is something exciting and Ugandans should look out for that. We shall also have a 50-meter long buffet that will have various food dishes on it," Kabayo said

There will be music from various African countries as another way of celebrating Africa in general. The event will be a red carpet event and for one to access it, they will have to pay sh50,000 for students, sh100,000 for adults and sh1m for a table.

For the Muslims especially those who are fasting, there will be free Iftar and this will be served at 6:50pm. After that there will be screening of some of Uganda's captivating stories through movies.
