Museveni was on Friday speaking during the commissioning of the revamped roads network in Lira Municipality.

The ceremony was held along Obote Avenue, next to the Lira Municipality market in Lira District. The central government spent a total of sh40.18bn on the project that covers a number of roads in the area.

The USMID program is being implemented in a context where Uganda since 1986 has experienced high economic growth, poverty reduction and average annual GDP growth of 8.1 % over the last six years (2003/2004- 2009/2010).

It has reduced donor assistance from 52 % of the annual budget in the early 1990s to the current level of 32%.

The President said the government has built the Karuma - Pakwach road and that plans are underway to build the Soroti-Amuria-Otuke road, the Dokolo-Amolatar road and the Loro-Oyam-Bobi road adding that, the government would also deliver on its pledge of building the Apac-Acoli Bur road.

The area MP Betty Amongi revealed that the roads' project in Lira Municipality has cost Central Government Ush 40.18 billion including the installation of solar-powered street lights
