Ntare OBs urged to vote their own in 2021

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye has implored Ntare old School boys to elect President Yoweri Museveni in 2021 elections, saying he has maintained peace and security in the country.

Tumwesigye also said Museveni has contributed towards the development of the school and built new infrastructures for the nation.

"I think really there should be no change because of the peace and security Museveni has brought into the country," he said.

The Minister was speaking to Ntare Old School boys who had turned up with their families in large numbers for a family day out, held at GEMS Cambridge International School in Butabika, Kampala.

Tumwesigye revealed how they met Ntare old school boys in Rwanda together with President Museveni and President Paul Kagame to devise means of modernizing the school.

He said the outcome of the meeting led to the construction of the science laboratories and donation of books to students of Ntare School.

 

The Minister revealed that they are building a sports complex estimated at sh1b and planning to construct an alternative sh383m water system using grilled boreholes so that the school can have an autonomous system that can supplement national water due to water scarcity in Mbarara district. They also intend to install solar power systems.

 
During the luncheon event, the old boys, dressed in casual attires, generated friendship and networked, as they exchanged business contacts. They also had a football match with some players of the Lions league.  They were accompanied by their children and wives.

The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija observed that Ntare School has the spirit of reliability, hard work and nationalism.

 
The former trade ministry permanent secretary Kapasi-Kakama, 71, who studied at the school between 1959 and 1964, revealed that they started the association in 1980s because of poor academic performance.

"When the performance of the school started deteriorating during war times in 1980's, we started an association and came up with the Constitution and elected the late Deputy Prime Minister Eriya Kategaya as chairman of the association," he recalls.

 
Kakama said after forming the association, they contributed towards the development of the school, hence improvement in performance.

Ntare School is a residential all-boys' secondary school located in Mbarara district. A Scottish educator, William Crichton founded it in 1956.

The event started with prayers, as bishop of Ankole diocese Rt. Rev. Dr Sheldon Mwesigwa taught the gathering on how to develop a holistic family. "Spending time with your children is more important than giving them money. Discuss and guide your children."

Quoting verses from the bible, Mwesigwa added, "Husbands have a duty to love their wives. Repentance is important when you wrong someone."  

He said marriage needs patience and perseverance, saying that is how marriage can be successful.

Mwesigwa noted that the culture of fiction Hollywood movies have destroyed the society with most children spending time in video halls, locally known as Kibanda to watch the same.

 
The Bishop also advised the gathering to save and leave within their means, saying spending less than you earn is key to financial security. "Wealth is not health."
