All key stakeholders in the construction industry are expected to showcase

The Uganda Association of Consulting Engineers (UACE) in collaboration with the ministry of works and transport is hosting the 26th International Infrastructure Conference for the continent.

Through the Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) Group of Africa member associations, the three-day conference that opened Monday morning at Kampala Serena Hotel is geared to towards bringing together all consulting engineers and other related infrastructure professionals, contractors, project managers among others to jointly share experience and challenges in the industry.

Eng. Patrick Batumbya a renown consulting engineering and the chairman for the organising committee for the conference said all key stakeholders in the construction industry are expected to showcase.

Batumbya who is also the managing director for MBW Consulting said the association assess the performance of other members and takes a keen interest in projects that are alleged to be shoddy.

He said they have assessed the quality of works for the new Nile Bridge and proved that its strength can last for the anticipated 120 years despite the ongoing surface dressing challenges.

"The bridge structure is strong and replacement of the tarmac surface has nothing to do with compromising its lifespan," he said.

The association is comprised of 31 reputable and registered firms with 310 highly qualified professionals.

It contributes significantly to the national treasury in the form of taxes by individual firms, employers and employees among others.

Eng. Betty Nakamya, the UACE chairperson said that during the conference, they will share experiences and challenges in the industry so as to find a collective solution.
