Eight suspects in police cells over theft of sh16m

According to Kigezi Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, the incident happened on the night of May 10, along Main Street in Kisoro Municipality.

Kisoro- Police in Kisoro district are holding in cells eight people, including members of the same family over alleged burglary and theft of sh16m. 

According to Kigezi Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, the incident happened on the night of May 10, along Main Street in Kisoro Municipality.

The suspects are accused of breaking into a shop belonging to Charles Nkyikabahizi of Mugwata village, Gisozi parish, Muramba sub-county Kisoro, where he had kept money amounting to sh16m. 

"Nkyikabahizi's wife Beyata Nyirarukundo, his sons, Moses Tumushime aged 17, and Robert Mugabe, as well as his daughter Jackeline Mbabazi aged 19, were arrested to assist in investigations concerning the matter," said Maate. 

Other suspects include; a one Ndatimana, Nkyikabahizi ‘s herdsman,  Elly Ndugutse, a boda-boda cyclist, Boniventure Niyomubyeyi, a mobile money attendant at Kisoro main street and Bosco Kayumba, a special hire driver in Kisoro town.  

"The suspects were arrested after the night watchman tipped off Police, thus providing the registration number plate of the vehicle, UAR 619X, a Toyota Premio which he said was used during the theft. Police immediately swung into action and arrested the driver," Maate said.

According to Maate, after arresting Kayumba, he revealed it was Nyirarukundo, wife to the complaint who convinced him and the other suspects into carrying out the theft after she complained that Nkyikabahizi wasn't taking care of the family.
