Man arrested in Butambala over bodaboda theft

The suspect has as a record of theft and that at one point, he was arrested in connection to cases of theft of vehicles

The Police in Butambala district have arrested a man suspected of stealing motorbikes and selling them in Kampala.

Katonga region Police spokesperson, Philip Mukasa, identified the suspects as Abdul Kibuuka, 51, a resident of Butawuka village, Bulo sub-county in Butambala district.

Mukasa said Kibuuka was arrested following a tip from a transporter whom Kibuuka had hired to help him transport the motorbikes to parts of Ndeeba, a Kampala suburb.

"We swung in action and arrested Kibuuka from his home after we were tipped off by a truck driver whom he had hired to transport over 10 motorcycles to Ndeeba in Kampala where he allegedly was going to sell them," Mukasa said.

He added that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday evening and a total of ten motorbikes were recovered from his house.

Police on Wednesday afternoon went back to Kibuuka's home and made a thorough search and managed to recover different parts of motorcycles as well as number plates.

The suspect was first detained at Bulo Police Station and later transferred to Kibibi Police Station where he is currently being detained as Police carry out investigations.

Butawuka LC 1 chairperson, Henry Ssesanga said he also received information that there were motorbikes suspected to be stolen being hidden at Kibuuka's residence and they immediately responded by informing Bulo Police Station which also intervened and arrested Kibuuka.

Ssesanga added that Kibuuka has a record of theft and that at one point; he was arrested in connection to cases of theft of vehicles but was released by court.

Kibuuka said he is being witch-hunted by bad hearted people who do not wish him good.

He added that all the motorbikes recovered from his home had been bought from different people and that he deals in second-hand motorbikes which he buys and sells in Ndeeba.
