Mubiru steps up training ahead of World Cup

Roy Mubiru, Uganda's only representative at the 2019 World WPA Powerlifting championships has embarked on high-end drills at his training gym in Boston, USA.
 
Mubiru left the country last month to the US after getting blessings from President Yoweri Museveni, who funded his world cup training and trip.
 
Mubiru, a sole representative from Uganda and Africa at large will compete in the heavyweight category against lifters from 20 countries in the event due May 16-19 in Lutsk, Ukraine.
 
"I have already embarked on my training here in Boston, got no time to waste as the world championships are close," Mubiru stated, from his Total Performance Sports Gym in Boston.

Mubiru's ultimate goal is to win gold at the annual competition.
 
He qualified for the World Cup after competing in the 32nd Annual Bay State Open Championships - Fitchburg gym, Massachusetts last year.
 
In Massachusetts, Mubiru participated in the Full Power Competition where he deadlifted 365kg, benched 210kgs and made 259kgs in the squats to qualify for the championship.
 
At the world cup, he will face-off with athletes from Ukraine, Iran, Poland, Finland, Armenia, Canada, France, Slovenia, Germany, Slovak, Italy, and Serbia.
 
Other musclemen will come from Turkey, Russia, the USA, Hungary, Georgia, Great Britain, and Belarus.
