Opolot wins Captain's Prize golf tournament
Mar 25, 2019
The tournament was the climax of Captain Joseph Bagabo’s two terms as per tradition of the club.
Sam Opolot and Judith Komugisha returned 66 and 68 nett respectively to emerge the overall winners of the one-day Captain's Prize golf tournament at Kitante on Saturday.
The tournament was the climax of Captain Joseph Bagabo's two terms as per tradition of the club.
The win was enough motivator for Opolot, (handicap 12), who wants to compete and lay a strong challenge as a single handicapper in this year's Uganda Open in September.
"I have only been seriously active starting this year and I can attribute my current form to the guidance I get from professional golfers Denis Anguyo and Becca Mwanja and the support from my sponsor Charles Karamagi," Opolot said after receiving his prizes from Toyota Uganda National Sales Manager Baisama Awori.
Opolot, 23, beat John Waigo and Hassan Kiyemba by one and three strokes respectively to add another trophy in his cabinet following another podium finish during the Serena leg of the Tusker Series.
Despite the dry conditions, Ndejje University first-year student Komugisha was also able to top the ladies completion.
"It was by Gods mercy and luck that I won this but my concentration levels were high and my putting was also very good today," the 21-year-old Komugisha who is eyeing the national ladies team stated. She registered ten pars as she marched her first win of the season.

Outgoing captain Bagabo who announced over sh250m in profits for the club during his tenure earlier received a refurbished Hole-No.4 on the course from MTN who injected sh100m for the beautification and renovations on the water hazard in front of the green.
Toyota Uganda Managing Director Mahmood Omar teed off the annual tournament that they promised to continue sponsoring going forward.
