The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sam Kutesa, is in talks with his Rwandan counterpart, Richard Sezibera, to find an amicable solution for the impasse between Uganda and Rwanda.

State minister of foreign affairs Okello Oryem says the problems between the two countries, which have caused the standoff at the border of Gatuna, shall be sorted out very soon on a round table and there is no cause for alarm from the public.

"Minister Sam Kutesa is engaging the minister of Foreign Affairs of Rwanda to find an amicable and peaceful way through which this conflict can be resolved. I want to assure Ugandans that the relationship between Uganda and Rwanda is a strong one," says Oryem

Meanwhile, bus operators say the closure of the Gatuna check point has greatly affected their operations.

Alex Katete, the operations manager of Trinity Bus Company, which plies Kigali-Kampala-Nairobi route says they would send up to 12 buses every day to Rwanda and beyond, but they now send only four, which go and at times come half empty.

"The situation has affected business and it's not yet back to normal. We are taking and bringing back people from Rwanda, but the number is not like it used to be," said Katete.

He added that many Rwandans who do not have any Ugandan IDs fear travelling to Rwanda after they heard that they will not be allowed to come back to Uganda.
