The performance monitoring and accountability study aims at improving the quality of healthcare in the country

Makerere University School of Public Health in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) and the National Population Council are set to carry out a national study to assess the performance of Primary Health Care (PHC).

The scientists feel that there is still a gap in the health care delivery system. The data collected will help them realise the performance of PHC.

"When we identify the gaps we shall be able to intervene," Prof Fred Wabwire-Mangen from the Makerere University School of Public Health said.

The performance monitoring and accountability study aims at improving the quality of healthcare in the country.

PHC is the minimum healthcare and part of essential healthcare that should be provided at the lowest level of care and should be accessible to the population.

"The study, therefore, will tell about health facilities and their ability and capacity to deliver the essential level of care, people's access to the lowest level of care, utilisation and their health-seeking behaviours," Wabwire-Mangen said.

He said the data collected will help the health ministry plan better for delivery of health services in the country.

He added that they have 110 enumeration areas that were randomly sampled by UBOS and 44 households per enumeration area were also selected

Victor Guma one of the trainers said at least 110 resident enumerators have undergone training on how to collect data.
